It is no question that the market is saturated with Real Estate agents. If you are just starting out, you might feel a bit overwhelmed with the competition out there.
How give your career a jump start?
Become an Expert
As a new Real Estate Agent, you must think of ways to distinguish yourself from the competition. You won’t go very far if you don’t stand out from the rest.
What is your target market? Find a niche market and become an expert. Now, I know what your thinking, ‘if I limit myself to a particular niche, I will limit my income potential’.
On the contrary, by becoming an expert in a particular niche, you stand out from the rest of the competition as an ‘expert’ in that particular niche. You can choose to become an expert in a certain part of your town/community. You can become an expert on family dwellings, or you can be come an expert on rental homes.
Market Yourself
No matter how good a Realtor you are, you won’t go far if nobody knows who you are. I know many Realtors that have blogs and/or websites to help market themselves, but that shouldn’t be your only marketing tool. After all, you goal is to market yourself within your niche market, how can you be sure your website is being viewed by your potential customers?
Building personal websites is good, but you need to market directly to your niche. Sending your own real estate mailers, flyers, and brochures is one way to get your face and name out there. Another great idea is to get involved within the community/area you are targeting. Become a volunteer. Become a sponsor for local community events.
Develop Awesome Selling Skills.
Like it or not, to be an effective Real Estate Agent, you must be a great salesman/saleswoman. A successful Real estate agent doesn’t just know the selling prices of land in his/her area, a successful real estate agent knows how to sell that piece of land in his/her area, at a great price.
If the thought of hard core selling scares you, this isn’t the field for you. How are your cold calling skills? How are you closing numbers? What are your conversion rates?
Improving your sales skills is vital if you wish to improve your career as a Real Estate Agent. Sales books, seminars, tapes, and workshops can be great investments in catapulting your career to the next level.
