Realtors all across the country have been using postcards for a a long time. For one thing, printing postcards are relatively affordable. For example, full color realtor postcards cost a fraction of what a flyer or newsletter would be. Postcards do not require an envelop and are cheaper to mail than any other form of mail. You can also mail them standard mail, avoiding the cost of a first class postage stamp.
Another reason why Realtors love postcards is because they are attention grabbing. As with any marketing material, you only have a few short seconds to grab a prospect’s attention before he or she discards your mail as ‘junk mail’. Since there is no envelope to open, most people will read a post card as soon as they take it out of the mail box – especially if it’s eye catching. Your message has an immediate impact to your prospect. A prospect might throw the post card away, but by the time they do, they will have already read your message.
For many Realtors, the key to success is to mail to the same areas over and over to get your name in front of targeted clientèle so that they remember you when it is time to list or buy a home. It is not uncommon for successful Realtors to mail at least 1000 real estate postcards every time they list or sell a home to the immediate area surrounding the property. In addition, they mail general real estate marketing postcard messages on a monthly basis, such as “Find Out what Your Home is Worth” to their entire marketing zone. They also use postcards to mail holiday greetings and calendar cards.
